Waterfront Estate Pool Deck
Arnold, MD
A waterfront estate poolscape — a freeform pool wrapped in a paver deck, with a pergola and steps down to the dock and the water.
On this waterfront estate, the concrete around the pool had failed and the hillside running down to the water needed attention at the same time. The pool was rebuilt from the inside out — new tile, coping, plaster, plumbing, lighting, and equipment — and the old deck was taken out rather than resurfaced over a base that was already moving.
The new surround is laid in Cambridge pavers, with matching retaining walls and pressure-treated timber planter boxes. Above it, the living space gained a custom white pergola, a composite deck, a purpose-built railing system, a Cambridge gas fire feature, outdoor lighting, and an audio system. On the slope below, a plant-mitigation plan built entirely from Maryland native species holds the hillside, so the ground between the house and the shoreline stays where it belongs.
